BILL BRANDT: “A Statement on Photography”(1948)
I had the good fortune to start my career in Paris in 1929. For any young photographer at that time, Paris was the centre of the world. Those were the exciting early days when the French poets and surrealists recognised the possibilities of photography.
Mr. Cunningham was such a singular presence in the city that, in 2009, he was designated a living landmark. And he was an easy one to spot, riding his bicycle through Midtown, where he did most of his field work: his bony-thin frame draped in his utilitarian blue French worker’s jacket, khaki pants and black sneakers (he himself was no one’s idea of a fashion plate), with his 35-millimeter camera slung around his neck, ever at the ready for the next fashion statement to come around the corner.
Greene was awarded national Photographer of the Year honors twice in the Pictures of the Year competition, and thirteen times for the Boston Press Photographers Association. Other awards include the Robert F. Kennedy International Photojournalism Award for his story of the Lost Boys of Sudan, as well as first place in the World Press Photo competition for his coverage of the Mississippi River flooding of 1993. A Pulitzer Prize finalist, he is also a four-time Emmy award winner, and two-time Edward R. Murrow winner for multimedia work produced at the Globe.

A build-up of intestinal gas can trigger abdominal distension, with some gas reabsorbed into the circulation and exhaled in your breath. Holding on too long leads to a build-up of pressure and major discomfort.
Leland, MS 2001
Pat Thomas, son of the late Delta legend James “Son” Thomas, is reflected in a mirror at his home in Leland,MS. Pat is attempting to follow in his father’s footsteps. Like his father, Pat has worked at many jobs including grave digging. He spends his time focusing on his father’s music, singing in the same falsetto voice that made “Son” Thomas internationally known. And like his father, Pat is becoming known for his evocative clay sculptures depicting skulls, animals, and “gypsy men” which, according to Thomas, possess supernatural power.
