In order to study the performance of the adsorption column, a three-dimensional model was developed using COMSOL Multiphysics. The equations were solved using the finite element method. Due to the cylindrical geometry of the adsorption column, a two-dimensional axi-symmetrical approximation was used to decrease the computational cost. How Oxygen PSA Generators Work
The Pressure Swing Adsorption process for the generation of enriched oxygen gas from ambient air utilises the ability of a synthetic Zeolite Molecular Sieve to absorb mainly nitrogen. While nitrogen concentrates in the pore system of the Zeolite, Oxygen Gas is produced as a product.
How does an Oxygen Concentrator work?
The composition of air (78% Nitrogen, 21% Oxygen and 1% other gases like Carbon Dioxide, Argon, etc.) clearly shows that air is mainly comprised of two gases: Nitrogen and Oxygen . If Nitrogen is removed from air, the primary gas remaining would be Oxygen with purity of about 90-95%. An Oxygen Concentrator uses this idea with the basic principle of Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) to deliver 90-95% pure oxygen.
