How to Unblock the URL Filter
Blocking URLs stops users from accessing unauthorized sites such as Facebook or eBay while using the network in an office. Administrators use this feature when they need to control the way users access the Internet. Some software allows you to block all websites stored in a database. Blocking URLs protects the network computers from obtaining viruses.
What is FilterBypass?
The most well-known example of content filtering within a specific network is the Great Firewall of China. The firewall, or content filter, is used to censor the Internet and effectively delete any content that the government of the People’s Republic of China doesn’t approve. Most institutions that use content filtering in free societies do not normally censor specific content, but rather block access to the sites the management has deemed undesirable.
To help you further with this, you can also use the policy tester tool to tell you what policies apply to a certain domain – URL (under Guardian > Quick links > Policy Tester). This tool will also return HTTP codes which are useful in identifying pages or page components that are not working correctly or require additional actions to be taken (such as adding the URL to Authentication Exceptions, or disabling HTTP Strict mode).
How to Configure and Use the URL Filter
To block broader access to a category of websites, you can enable the URL filter in your firewall and application policy rules. When the user connects to a website, the Barracuda NextGen Firewall X-Series compares the URL against a large online database. You can allow or block access website to based on predefined URL categories and define exceptions to exclude single websites from being blocked or allowed.
How to Unblock a Website
To adjust Web content filtering on a network, OpenDNS Administrators must log in to the OpenDNS Dashboard. Under Settings for: select the network to be adjusted (you must have appropriate permissions for that network) and click on the Web Content Filtering link. Choose the filtering levels or specific categories and click Apply.
